Jama Masjid is also known as Jami Masjid, and Juma Masjid. The Jama Masjid is situated on the outside of the fort of Bhadra between teen darwaja and Manek Chowk. Jami Masjid was built in 1424 during the reign of Sultan Ahmed Shah I, the founder of Ahmedabad.

Jama Masjid has also been constructed with yellow sandstone like Sidi Saiyyid Jali. And its courtyard is made of Sangamar, i.e, Marble stone. Two beautifully carved minarets are built at the entrance. In the mosque’s prayer hall, 260 pillar columns stand in support of 15 veils.

The art reminiscent of Jain and Hindu architecture is also seen in this mosque. The central tower here is shaped like a lotus flower, which is found in every Jain temple. And there are some pillars which are often seen in Hindu temples. This mosque represents the confluence of Hindu-Muslim artwork. That is why this architecture is known as Indo-Islamic architecture.

It is said that it took 12 years to build this mosque. It is also said that Sultan Ahmed Shah I built this architecture for his personal use. This mosque is built on three floors. This mosque has a separate prayer room for women, known as Zanana, which is made of finely carved nets and is located on the first floor.

The mausoleums of Ahmed Shah I, his son and grandson also known as the Badshah na Hazira are found towards the western side of the mosque.
